Toridashi
Eject all your external drives from the menu bar at once
$8 one-time (no subscription) · macOS 14 Sonoma or later (planned)
What it is for
If you work with external disks, SD cards or network shares, you want to know when a volume appears or disappears, and you want to eject everything before you unplug the cable or close the lid.
Finder ejects one disk at a time, and when an eject fails it says that “one or more programs may be using” the disk, but not which one. Toridashi ejects all external drives from the menu bar and shows which app is in the way.
It is built natively for Apple silicon, so it keeps working with macOS 28, when Rosetta for Intel-based apps becomes limited to certain older games (Apple Support: Using Intel-based apps on a Mac with Apple silicon).
Features (planned)
Mount and unmount notifications
Including drives that were unplugged without ejecting. Turn notifications on or off per drive.
Menu bar drive list
Free space for each volume, eject one, or “Eject All” external drives. Internal volumes are never touched.
See what is blocking an eject
Lists the apps (running under your account) that still have files open on the volume, so you can close them.
Eject before sleep
Optionally eject external drives when the Mac goes to sleep and mount them again after it wakes.
Keyboard shortcut
Eject all external drives with a shortcut you choose.
No admin helper
Uses the system’s Disk Arbitration framework. No root daemon, no password prompt. Native on Apple silicon.

FAQ
- Does it work with network shares and disk images?
- Yes, as an option. By default “Eject All” covers physical external drives only.
- How is it different from other menu bar eject utilities?
- Some utilities for this job are no longer maintained and run only as Intel-based apps, which will stop working with macOS 28. Toridashi is a new app, native on Apple silicon, and also shows which app is blocking an eject.
- Can I buy it now?
- Not yet. The app is in development. You can join the waitlist (email only) or, once reservations open, reserve a founder licence.
- What does the founder reservation include?
- You pay $4 now. The $4 is deducted from the price of the first paid release, and you get the licence key by email on release day.
- Can I get my money back?
- Yes. Until the first release you can ask for a full refund at any time by replying to the receipt email. If the app is cancelled, every reservation is refunded in full.
- How will it be distributed?
- As a direct download, signed and notarized by Apple. A Mac App Store version may follow later.
